Sweden must take further “concrete steps” against what Turkey describes as terrorism in order for the parliament to admit Sweden into NATO.

– We do not see a satisfactory level of implementation, says the country’s vice president Cevdet Yilmaz to the Financial Times.

Although President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has agreed to approve Sweden’s accession to the military alliance, the Turkish parliament also needs to say yes. And there is doubt as to whether Sweden has done enough against the Kurdish PKK and the Gülen movement. Turkey has also condemned Koran burnings and demonstrations held in Sweden

– Our parliament is very sensitive when it comes to these issues because there is public opinion in Turkey. If we do not see sufficient progress in practice, then the parliament will be under heavy pressure, Yilmaz told the newspaper.

In the pot for the Turkish part there is also a potential purchase of American fighter aircraft of the F-16 type, where Turkey has said it is willing to let Sweden in if the US approves the purchase.
