After a long debate, the Turkish parliament has approved Sweden’s NATO application. At least the news agencies AFP and Reuters report on it.

287 members of parliament voted for Sweden’s NATO membership and 55 voted against.

Ratification still goes to the president Recep Tayyip Erdogan for approval.

After Turkey’s acceptance, Hungary is the only country that has not yet accepted Sweden’s membership.

Finland and Sweden applied for NATO membership at the same time in May 2022. Finland became a member of the defense alliance almost a year later.
