With Lucy, Netflix is showing an action-packed sci-fi film whose twists will leave you in disbelief
There are films whose twists create a pleasant “aha” effect. There are films whose twists create a permanent knot in your brain. And then there are films like Lucy, which…
with your mouth open in front of the screen leave behind.
Director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) has created a visually strong, exciting film that is at no point predictable. Together with the protagonist Lucy, you fall from one turbulent danger to the next: Lucy, initially a completely normal student, advances at high speed from the involuntary drug courier to… well, to something or someone beyond imagination.
To say that the drug given to Lucy had unexpected side effects is definitely the understatement of the century, but it is technically correct. Besson shows what these side effects mean in a visually powerful whirlpool from which there is no escape.
The film not only manages to provide extremely entertaining entertainment for 90 minutes, but also central questions of being human to ask: What hidden potential is actually crackling in your own brain? How far have we actually come, both as humanity and individually?
Lucy provides some unconventional food for thought – and is an absolute insider tip for all science fiction fans who want to see how an unpredictable journey of self-discovery merges with turbulent action.
Lucy premiered on August 14, 2014 and is included in subscriptions on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
