The men’s shot put proved what the Kaleva Games are really about. Although there has been talk of Olympic places and world ranking points in connection with the Vaasa Games, the salt of the event is still in the rankings.

A 38-year-old pitcher Tuomas Seppänen finally got his first Finnish championship. Before the full hit, he had achieved ten silver and three bronze medals.

The championship is memorable for Seppänen in many ways. A week earlier, his mother had a stroke and was hospitalized.

Seppänen was understandably emotional after the race.

– He was in the hospital until Thursday. Fortunately, he recovered at home and is able to walk and talk.

– It has been a rollercoaster of emotions. He has been very important, as has my father. They have always supported their sons’ sports pursuits. It has been invaluable.

Seppänen wants to make his mother happy with a pleasant welcome.

– Now I’m taking the gold medal to my mother to marvel at. I think we are proud there. Even if they had won silver, I know that they would have been proud anyway, Seppänen knows.

“I shouted to the audience”

In the final evening of the Kaleva Games, we also saw the true face of sports, when most of the spectators pushed away after the women’s 100-meter hurdles final, while the hurdles final was still in progress.

Seppänen noticed this.

– I shouted to the audience that the games are not over yet. Is the group in a hurry to work, like I am tomorrow (Sunday)? It could be that the football matches were also of interest.

Moukarikisa’s schedule was delayed after the cage broke.

– You could have politely watched it at the end of the movie. When the prizes are handed out, the crowd leaves the stands. There were obviously better things to do. It’s a shame.
