Tunisia’s autocratic president getting another term with an avalanche | News in brief

The autocratic president of Tunisia, located in North Africa Kais Saied is getting a second season with a huge avalanche of votes, according to the door-to-door surveys of the national TV company.

According to the polls, Saied would get almost 90 percent of the votes.

According to the independent research institute Sigma Conseil, one of Saied’s challengers is in prison Avachi Zammel was getting about 7 percent and Zuhair Maghzaoui almost 4 percent of the votes.

Human rights organizations fear that Saied’s re-election will strengthen his position. Three years ago, Saied suspended the country’s parliament. Tunisia was considered the only democracy born out of the Arab Spring until Saied tightened his grip on power.
