Tunisia welcomes its first wounded Palestinians from Gaza

Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed said he wanted to welcome wounded Palestinians on Tunisian soil. It is now done. The first 29 patients arrived during the night from Sunday to Monday December 4 in the Tunisian capital.

Hugs and handshakes. President Kaïs Saïed immediately went to the bedside of the wounded who had recently arrived in Tunis in a military plane. “ We cannot just organize demonstrations, wave slogans or Palestinian flags. We had to do something. It’s our duty », declared the head of state.

Burns, fractures or even trauma, the schedule of the military hospital in Tunis has been arranged to treat Gazan patients as a priority. “ I hope you leave here in good health and return to liberated Gaza, the Tunisian president confides to a patient. All of Palestine will be liberated God willing. Tunisia is always open to you. Here, there are a people who hold you in their hearts. »

While the major Arab capitals remain very measured in their denunciation of Israeli bombings in Gaza, this Palestinian who recently arrived in Tunis wanted to thank Kaïs Saïed for his support: “ Nice to meet you. You are one of those I like to listen to. I like listening to the speeches in which you defend Palestine. »

New Palestinian patients are expected this week in Tunis. A symbolic operation which allows the Tunisian president – increasingly criticized for his authoritarian methods – to improve his image on a regional scale as well as within his own country.
