Maximilian “Trymacs” Stemmler has long been criticized for his streams on the FIFA franchise. Then came the change of heart, the streamer no longer wanted to show gambling mechanics on Twitch. Now he explains why he will still play EA Sports FC.
What relationship does Trymacs have to the franchise? Trymacs was one of the biggest FIFA streamers for a long time. In 2020 he was in third place worldwide among the most viewed streamers on Twitch at the time of FIFA 2021 (via sullygnome).
An important part of Trymacs’ content was putting an incredible amount of money into the game. He once spent €13,500 on what was probably the best team in the world, only to lose the first game.
Trymacs distanced himself from the criticism of the loot box model in games like FIFA: He shows his viewers how slim the chances are of getting good cards and would actually deter them from putting money into the game themselves.
But then came the big change of heart: He uninstalled FIFA 23 in the stream and shortly afterwards even deleted his expensive team. Trymacs said he didn’t want to encourage spectators to put money into the game.
With the upcoming release of EA Sports FC 24 on September 29th, the streamer has received many questions as to whether he will show the FIFA successor on Twitch.
In a video published on September 19, 2023, he makes a clear announcement.
“Complete online casino for children”
Will Trymacs show EA Sports FC 24? Yes, Trymacs plans to play the FIFA successor on his stream. However, there is a big “but”. He will no longer play the Ultimate Team mode: Nothing has changed, it is a complete online casino for children, disguised as a football simulator, says Trymacs
The streamer emphasizes that he is only concerned with the gambling aspect. If it were just a matter of throwing money into the game and, for example, buying an Mbappé directly, he would have no problem with it. Everything about the packs, from the sound to the image and the effects, is designed to get you addicted in some way, says Trymacs.
And even if you’ve never opened a pack and you get caught up in me doing this, I’m already doing you harm. Especially younger viewers even more so than usual. Some people are vulnerable to that. I have a huge community, an incredible number of viewers who watch this, I don’t want to do that anymore. This was a big mistake in the past.
For the same reason, he doesn’t show Counter-Strike boxes, even though that’s very popular with many of his streaming colleagues. If something changes to the Ultimate Team in the future, Trymacs could imagine a return.
Moving away from Ultimate Team means financial losses for the streamer. FIFA has been by far the most successful game on his channel so far. But he simply couldn’t reconcile it with his conscience any other way.
What does he want to show instead? Trymacs explains that he will show other game modes of EAFC 24. He will compete in friendly games against fellow streamer Chefstrobel, play Pro Clubs with his viewers or try out career mode.
