Trump’s statement comes in a podcast with journalist Vince Coglianese according to AFP.
– We need Greenland for international security. We must have it, he says and continues:
– I hate to say it this way, but we will have to have it.
The statement comes before Vice President JD Vance is expected to travel to Greenland with his wife, Usha Vance this week. US national security adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Minister Chris Wright are also expected to travel there.
Have spoken several times
The US president has said several times before that the United States needs access to Greenland in different ways.
Earlier in March, he was asked by a journalist in the White House if there were any plans for an “possible annexation” of the island.
“I think it gets rid of,” said Trump then, which was met by criticism from Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
