Ex-president Donald Trump is working hard to bring in his daughter-in-law Lara Trump as vice-chairman of the party’s national leadership. It happens at the same time that he wants to replace the current chair Ronna McDaniel with the party chair in North Carolina, Michael Whatley.
McDaniel, who has been verbally sniped by Trump and his supporters for some time, says she has no plans to resign, at least not before the Feb. 24 South Carolina primary. The primary election there is seen as a win-or-lose election for the only remaining challenger to Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, to become the party’s presidential nominee against Democrat Joe Biden in November.
Trump’s displeasure with McDaniel and the rest of the party’s national leadership is said to be that he believes they are not putting enough effort into supporting his baseless claims of voter fraud when he lost the presidency to Biden in 2020.
