US president Donald Trump threatens the European Union and Canada with potential additional supplements if they cause “financial harm” to the United States.

Trump wrote in his Truth Social message that the EU and Canada could get “much larger duties” than currently planned.

On Wednesday, the President announced new 25 % customs fees for all cars that were not manufactured in the United States. The duties are due to enter into force on 2 April.

Import duties apply to all imported cars and trucks that are not manufactured in the United States. According to Trump, cars made in the country are avoided by customs fees.

The president said that customs fees are definitely permanent.

According to the New York Times, about half of the vehicles sold in the United States have been imported. According to estimates by research institutes, Trump’s import duties would increase the price of new cars by thousands of dollars. Today, the US import duty for cars manufactured abroad is 2.5 %.

Chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen described the duties as “bad businesses and worse for consumers.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney Called duties as an attack against Canadian workers. According to him, retaliation for the United States is planned.
