US president Donald Trump has signed an implementation order of 25 % of import duties for steel and aluminum. The new import duties will enter into force on 4 March.
Trump also realized that he was considering prescribing additional duties for cars, medicines and computer chips.
According to US shopping statistics, Canada and Mexico are the largest steel importers to the United States. Brazil and South Korea are also significant steel suppliers. Trump said he was considering a possible exception to the steel duties for Australia.
