Donald Trump signs the presidential order for journalists in the White House.
– We will shut it down as soon as possible, he tells the press.
In his speech, Trump criticized the Ministry, which he believes has destroyed the US schools. Under the auspices of the states, the schools, according to Trump, will cost half as much as today and give a much better result.
In the speech he also praises the Nordic countries, including Sweden, for their school system.
– Denmark, Norway, Sweden. I have to say that I give them praise. States that work well will have an education that is as good as in Norway, Denmark and Sweden, he says.
“Will take care of our teachers”
Furthermore, Trump praises the country’s teachers.
– We will take care of our teachers. We will love and pay tribute to our teachers, together with our students, he says and continues:
– We want our children to be well educated and love to go to school.
The decision has been going on for several weeks. During the ceremony where the order was signed, several Republican governors participated, including the country’s Minister of Education Linda McMahon.
In her speech, Trump calls her “the last Minister of Education”.
– We will find something else for you, he says.
Meeted by criticism
The Ministry of Education will not be shut down immediately, but the congress must also decide on a resolution.
Trump has already cut down on the workforce and until now about half of the previous 4,100 employees have remained.
About 13 percent of the financing of primary and secondary schools come from the federal cash register.
The decision is met by strong protests.
“Trump tells students in municipal schools in the United States that their future does not matter. Billionaires like Trump and Musk will not notice any difference,” writes Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren to NBC, and continues:
“Workers’ families, students and teachers will have to pay a high price”.
