Donald Trump “resorted to criminal means” to retain the presidency after losing the 2020 election.

This is stated by the special prosecutor Jack Smith in a new submission to the court that decides whether the indictment against former US President Donald Trump for trying to obtain the results after the 2020 presidential election should be declared invalid.

The records show, according to Smith and his aides, that Donald Trump does not enjoy immunity in the case.

The intent of the filing is to convince federal judge Tanya Chutkan that the suspected acts were carried out by the private individual and not President Trump, and that the case can thus proceed.

Among the suspected crimes are the attempts to persuade then-Vice President Mike Pence to annul the election results on the afternoon of January 6, 2021, which he refused.
