Former US President Donald Trump has officially asked the Supreme Court to postpone the trial in which he is accused of inciting to riot in connection with the deadly congressional storming in January 2021. His appeal was expected.
A federal appeals court ruled earlier in February that Trump does not have immunity from prosecution in the case and can therefore be prosecuted. The ex-president had until Monday to appeal, and from the papers his lawyers have submitted to HD it appears that he wants the court to reconsider the decision because, in his own opinion, he has immunity from prosecution.
Donald Trump was on Monday in a court, in Florida, where preliminary deliberations on another upcoming trial were held. That indictment concerns the former president’s handling of classified and sensitive government documents that have been stored at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida after his time in the White House.
That trial is scheduled to begin on May 20.
