Charlotte Baris: It is Friday September 27, in the middle of the campaign for the American election. That day, there was even more excitement than usual in Trump Tower in New York. Former President Donald Trump receives Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian president is visiting the United States for a few days and he wanted to meet the Republican candidate.
Before talking for a few hours, the two men spoke to journalists in a corridor. Trump is in his usual blue suit, Zelensky is wearing khaki pants and a black sweater. But the atmosphere suddenly becomes strange.
In front of the Ukrainian president, Trump decides to talk about his good relations with Vladimir Putin. Zelensky seems frozen. Before adding: “I hope we both have a better relationship.” The tone for the discussion to come is set. And Zelensky knows it, whether it is Donald Trump or Kamala Harris, the results of the American presidential election can tip the war in Ukraine.
