The next president-elect of the United States Donald Trump has had several telephone conversations with the Prime Minister of Hungary after his election victory Viktor Orbán with.
The topic of the discussions has been ending the war in Ukraine, Hungarian government sources tell the Hungarian-language service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).
Trump is said to have asked Orbán’s opinions on issues related to ending the war in Ukraine.
Orbán is known as a critic of the line of Western countries, who has criticized the support given to Ukraine.
During Hungary’s EU presidency, Orbán has also been visited by the Russian president Vladimir Putin by.
Other EU countries have condemned Orbán’s actions and emphasized that Orbán does not represent the EU when he travels.
According to RFE/RL, Orbán is planning another war-related trip for December at the end of Hungary’s six-month presidency.
Trump, who had warm relations with Orbán, has also criticized Ukraine’s support and claimed during his election campaign that as president he could end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours.
However, even after his election victory, Trump has not announced a concrete plan for how this would happen in practice.
