Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told his supporters on Friday that he would “fix things so well that in four years there would be no need to vote”.
Republican presidential candidate in the United States Donald Trump has caused confusion with his statement that voters would no longer need to vote after the November election.
Trump spoke to a group of Christian supporters in Florida on Friday. In his speech, Trump said he needed the votes of his supporters “just this once”.
– You don’t have to vote again after four years. We will fix it so well that you don’t have to vote, he formulated.
Trump did not elaborate on what exactly he meant by “fixing the issue”.
However, the statement has raised concerns among Trump’s opponents, who have repeatedly accused the former president of being a threat to democracy, for example after Trump sought to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election.
If Trump were to become president again in the November elections, he would, by law, have the opportunity to serve for another four years. According to the US Constitution, it is possible for a person to serve as President of the United States for a maximum of two terms.
However, in his speech in May, Trump joked about a presidency exceeding two terms.
Similarly, Trump has previously joked that if he wins the November election, he is going to act as a dictator on the first day of his term, to close the US-Mexico border and increase US oil drilling.
