Former US President Donald Trump’s company received at least $7.8 million in payments from 20 foreign governments during his time as president, according to a report.
China is said to have paid the largest sum.
Using documents obtained through a court process, a report by Democrats in the US Congress shows how foreign governments have interacted with Trump’s companies from the time he was sworn in in January 2017 until he left office four years later, writes The New York Times.
The foreign governments paid millions of dollars to several of Trump’s hotels in the capital Washington, Las Vegas and New York.
The Chinese government is said to have paid the largest amount of a total of 5.5 million dollars, equivalent to roughly 56 million kroner, to Trump’s company, the newspaper writes.
On Thursday, the Democrats highlighted the transactions as a counterweight to the Republican impeachment investigation against President Joe Biden. Republicans have tried to tie Joe Biden to deals that his son Hunter Biden conducted before he became president in an effort to show corruption, according to The New York Times.
Donald Trump belongs to the Republicans, which together with the Democrats are the two dominant parties in American politics.
