Peter Navarro, adviser to Donald Trump when he was president of the United States, has been sentenced to four months in prison for contempt of Congress.

He was convicted last September on two counts, each of which could carry up to a year in prison.

Navarro was convicted of refusing to cooperate with the committee investigating the storming of Congress on January 6, 2021. He has persistently maintained after the 2020 presidential election that Trump’s loss was due to widespread voter fraud.

Prosecutors argued that Navarro acted as if he were above the law.

Navarro is the second Trump adviser to be convicted of contempt of Congress. Steve Bannon has previously been sentenced, also to four months in prison. However, he has appealed and has not yet served his sentence.
