Truls Möregårdh’s improbable winning streak intact in the Table Tennis League

Two-time Olympic silver medalist Truls Möregårdh created ping pong fever in Sweden this summer.
He filled the home hall to the breaking point when Eslöv won the premiere in the Table Tennis League with 4–1 over BTK Rekord.

The double Olympic silver medalist Truls Möregårdh22, is once again back in the top ten in the latest world rankings and also back in the Table Tennis League. That there is Trulsfeber in Eslöv, no one doubts. After returning home from the success in the Olympics, he filled Stora Torg in Eslöv this summer.

– It’s not just here at home that they love table tennis. I’m surprised at how much everyone watches ping-pong all over the country, says Möregårdh.

“Fantastic about the resurrection”

In the home premiere of the Table Tennis League, he filled Blomsterbergshallen to capacity. The same hall, also Eslöv’s training hall, is about to become too small. The club was able to include 90 new young people in beginner training in the autumn run-up.

– It is fantastic with this upheaval, there is chaos everywhere. It is clear that it would be good if we could get access to a larger hall and there are possibilities, says Truls Möregårdh.

It may not be the same hysteria that prevails in China. Here you are more used to meeting your home star. Sufficient excitement nevertheless for little Eslöv in the context. Even for Truls Möregårdh’s clubmates, sparring with him on a daily basis is a boost.

– Truls Möregårdh makes everyone rise and we get better from training with him. It is very inspiring to have him in the same club, says Alex Naumi.

Undefeated over three years

Möregårdh was well opposed to Rekord’s chairman Hampus Söderlund. But in the end Söderlund couldn’t stand up to Möregårdh. The audience got full value for the entrance when the home idol offered several delicacies. Eslövs AI won the derby 4–1.

Truls Möregårdh is still undefeated after more than three years in the Table Tennis League, 68-0 in singles quota after the series premiere against BTK Rekord and more will follow. The series premiere was also a rehearsal for the EC, which begins next week.
