Truls Möregårdh receives the most well-deserved tribute after the great Olympic success – the hometown’s beautiful gesture: “Means a lot”

Truls Möregårdh is received as a hero when he returns home to Eslöv after the great success in the Olympics in Paris, where he won silver in both the singles and the team competition.

From the stage, he is named both a lovely påg and a Skåne Eiffel Tower – and an honorary citizen of Eslöv.
– You are absolutely wonderful who have come here. Thanks for all the support, says Truls Möregårdh to the sea of people on Stora torg.

Trul’s big tribute

This is what he has been looking forward to after the extreme life in an Olympic bubble where he performed at his peak. The best thing about Eslöv is the cohesion, thinks Truls Möregårdh.
– Just look at how many people come to pay tribute to someone who has done well in a sport, it’s fantastic that they get so involved in it. I’ve seen pastries with my name on them and everything, so it means a lot that a municipality wants to do so much for you.

“I’m super happy”

Lamis al-Omar is not really interested in sports, but she has followed Truls together with her sons Owais, 8, and Faiad, 11. Now both want to play table tennis.
– We live here in Sweden and we want to celebrate with other Swedes. We are very happy, says Lamis al-Omar.

The square party ends with a selfie rally, where everyone who wants to can step into a giant pink chair and get a picture together with the Olympic star.

Now he will be allowed to rest for a while – he would need to sleep twelve hours a day to recover, he says. Far away on the horizon awaits the European Championships in Austria this autumn.
– I really don’t think about that competition right now and really take it as it comes and I’m super happy about what happened, says Truls Möregårdh.
