First he won the eighth in the world tour competition in Frankfurt.
Then Truls Möregårdh celebrated with the same victory gesture as Viktor Gyökeres.
– Viktor’s victory gesture is one of the best I have seen in my life and I wanted to try it, he says to Sportbladet.
First won Anton Källberg convincingly against the Chinese world number one Wang Chuqinthen it was Truls Möregårdhs chance to play round of 16 in WTT Champions Frankfurt. Once there, he defeated the Englishman Liam Pitchford in three straight sets and celebrated like another super Swede.
Truls pays homage to Gyökeres
Because after winning the match, he took his hands and snapped his fingers in the same way as the football player Viktor Gyökeres before placing his hands in front of his face. Gyökeres has become known for always using it as a target gesture and many people now recognize the hand movement.
– I wanted to test it. Viktor’s victory gesture is one of the best I’ve seen in my life and I wanted to try it. I played a fantastic match and it felt like the perfect time to do it after his effort against City, says Truls to Sportbladet.

He is referring to Gyökeres scoring a hat-trick in the Champions League match between Sporting Lisbon and Manchester City on Tuesday, which the Swede’s Portuguese team won 4-1. Truls sat and watched the match himself, but cannot say whether his own effort was on par with Gyökeres.
– Hard to compare, haha. But I felt very cool doing it anyway. It feels a little bigger in the Champions League against Manchester City, the world’s best team. But it worked in the ping-pong hall as well, he says.
Set against Felix Lebrun
In the quarter-finals, Truls meets the 18-year-old Frenchman Felix Lebrunwho won Olympic bronze in singles and European Championship gold in doubles. They have met each other a couple of times lately and there are always exciting matches between Möregårdh and Lebrun. The Frenchman has won the last three duels against the Swede.
– Not many people have it particularly easy with him, so I don’t have to feel alone. But I have met him a few times and had a very tough time. But I play very well in this hall, I feel calm and collected and I make good decisions. Hopefully I can push him tomorrow.
