Truls Möregårdh left Paris with two Olympic silvers this summer.
Now his life has changed drastically in more ways than one.
– There aren’t that many people after the Olympics who have had such a substantial increase, he says to DN.
After his double Olympic silver received Truls Möregårdh22, all of Sweden to talk about ping-pong again. People had flashbacks of when Jan-Ove Waldner, Jorgen Persson and Mikael Appelgren excelled together in the 80s and 90s. Thanks to his unique and cool name and his incredible achievements, Truls has in a short time become one of Sweden’s most popular athletes.
Trul’s success on social media
The fact is that Truls Möregårdh is one of the Swedish athletes who gained the most new followers on social media since the championship. His following on Instagram increased by 190 percent after the Olympics, from 72,400 followers to 210,000. Before the Olympics, he was ranked 15th among Swedish Olympic athletes with the most Instagram followers – now he is ranked fifth. Only knocked off “Mondo” Duplantis, Sarah Sjostrom, Ludvig Åberg and Peder Fredricsson.
– I don’t feel like an “influencer” right away, but it’s clear, I’ve got a lot of followers and reach a lot of people now. There aren’t that many people after the Olympics who have had such a substantial increase, he says to Dagens Nyheter.

DN: What is the biggest positive surprise about it?
– It will be more fun to publish posts and “content”, I think. After all, more people will see it. And of course that many people write nice things to you, wonder a lot of things and check ping-pong again.
The father helps him
After the success in the Olympics, it is not only the followers who found their way to his social media channels. Truls says that several companies are contacting him to collaborate with him. His father helps him find relevant paid collaborations and is in contact with various people and companies.
– Yes, of course. There is a lot of exposure of one’s own brand during the Olympics and that was something I could never have imagined before going there. Paid collaborations often happen through social media and I haven’t been able to do that as much before because I didn’t have that many followers, he says.
