True or false in the Night Riders series – what is true on the horse farm?

The drama series “The Night Riders” is about Molly and Frida who works and lives on the fictional horse farm Heddesta. From the outside, the riding school looks like paradise, but not everything is right on the farm.

The stable is owned by the riding instructor Tommy, who manipulate and commit both psychological and sexual abuse of the students.

Night Riders is inspired by events that occurred on a horse farm on Ekerö during the 90s and 00s. The riding instructor there was convicted of several sexual assaults in 1991, but always maintained his innocence.

The events at the horse farm have previously been depicted in P1 in the documentary series “Hästgården” which came out in 2018, here you can read more about the series Night Riders and what happened in reality at the horse farm.

News24 have talked to Sophie Jahndaughter of the riding instructor, about what is false and true in the series?

– It is incredibly real. It captures the idyllic nature of the farm but with the darkness and shadow that lies above, she says.

But was there something in the “Night Riders” that does not correspond to reality?

  • Mother’s age and vulnerability
  • – My mom (Anna Bohlin eds note) was as old as “Molly” and “Frida”. They came out on the farm at the same time and were very close friends. In the series, she is older and you don’t really get to see how she is victimized by my father, that she is just as much a victim, says Sophie Jahn.

  • The love between the parents
  • – I never saw them kiss or ride out together in the way that comes out in the series. I didn’t see that kind of love.

    – Now it’s about me and my sister. But we have two younger siblings who are not with us. We were a big family, something that is not fully depicted.

  • The riding instructor was even worse
  • – Even though they really succeeded in finding out what my father was like Jonas Karlsson does an extremely good job, he was worse than what you see, says Sophie Jahn and continues:

    – Above all, how my siblings and I were exposed. That part could come out more. But they have had limited episodes and probably felt that there is a lot of darkness in it.

Here you can read about what happened to the real Heddesta farm – and how it looks there today.
