Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologizes to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The reason is the standing ovation a Nazi veteran received in the Canadian Parliament on Friday – when Zelenskyj was present.
– I apologize unreservedly for what happened and affected President Zelenskyi and the Ukrainian delegation, and the situation they found themselves in, says Trudeau in parliament.
– All of us who were in the parliament deeply regret that we stood up and applauded, even though we were then unaware of the man’s past.
The ovation was given immediately after a speech by Zelenskyy in the chamber, and the Nazi veteran was presented as a man who fought for Ukraine.
Speaker Anthony Rota has resigned after the storm of criticism that followed.
