Truck with dangerous goods has overturned on the E10 outside Kiruna

The alarm about the accident came at 17.10 on Monday afternoon. According to information, the lorry, which overturned, was loaded with ammonium nitrate. The substance is classified as dangerous goods and can become explosive if mixed with other substances.

Two people were involved in the accident.

– One person has been taken to medical care by ambulance, says police spokesperson Elin Andersson.

Later in the evening, Region Norrbotten states that it is a woman in her 70s, a native of Kiruna, who received serious injuries. She was taken to the emergency room and has now been moved to the intensive care unit at Kiruna Hospital.

E10 was kept completely off

The road was completely closed during the rescue work.

– A drone will examine how it looks from above and you have a thermal camera that keeps track of the load. As long as it is not hot, it is hoped that the traffic will be able to start, says Andersson at around 19:00.

Another truck is sent to the accident site to transfer the dangerous substance to its tank, and police on site are also working to secure handling of the goods.

Shortly before 10 p.m., the road was partially opened and it is possible to pass the site alternately in both directions.
