Truck driver Tiberius’ struggle – to get out of the snow

Road 47 between Grästorp and Falköping was one of the hard-hit road sections during Tuesday’s snowstorm. Tiberius Costin stopped at a rest area just east of Borga at 8 pm in the evening when the snowfall was too intense.

When he was about to leave for Jönköping on Tuesday morning, the truck got stuck. A colleague passing by stopped to try to help him free – but time and again the tension straps that acted as the tow line snapped and came loose. Tiberius Costin took the standstill in stride.

    Deliveries will be delayed

The fact that many trucks have been stationary during the past 24 hours will have consequences. This is the opinion of the industry association Sweden’s Trucking Companies, which states that there are around 70,000-80,000 trucks on the roads around the country every day.

    – It will be a misery for the haulage companies. Many have been stuck all night and haven’t taken their 24-hour rest, says Pelle Joelsson, industry representative for Sweden’s Åkeriforetat in Västra Götaland.

He believes that it will take several days to catch up with deliveries.

    – We are preparing to get medicine and food, that is the most important thing, he says.
