A court in Hong Kong has sentenced 45 democracy activists to prison for between four and ten years, writes NBC.
Law professor Benny Tai, 60, was sentenced to the longest sentence of ten years.
The activists are being tried under a national security law introduced by China after the 2020 Hong Kong peace demonstrations.
The United States and several Western states have called the so-called Hong Kong 47 trial politically motivated and demanded the immediate release of the accused.

Joe Biden missed the group photo at his last G20 meeting.
When the outgoing US president arrived for the photo session at the summit in Rio de Janeiro, the heads of state in attendance had already posed for the traditional photo.
Frustrated US officials blamed the miss on “logistical problems” and denied that Biden deliberately delayed his arrival to avoid sharing a picture with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Instead, it is said that Biden’s meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dragged on.
The two instead posed with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who was also not in the group photo.

The US Department of Justice wants to force tech giant Alphabet’s Google to sell the Chrome browser, according to Bloomberg, which refers to sources at the department.
Competition and antitrust officials have decided to ask a judge to issue an order saying Chrome must be sold.

The Reuters news agency writes on Monday evening that Hezbollah and Lebanon are ready to accept a new cease-fire agreement with Israel, which has been negotiated by the United States.
The Lebanese response suggests, according to Reuters, that the agreement will comply with UN Resolution 1701 from 2006, which requires Hezbollah to withdraw all its troops above the Litani River, a demand previously made by Israel.

The police are now working to secure tracks in the area. No one has been arrested.
The incident is being investigated as attempted murder and aggravated weapons offences.

A man has been bitten by a dog in Malmö.
There is currently no information on whether the man, who is in his 40s, has had to seek medical care.
The dog attack is being investigated as causing bodily harm as well as a violation of the Act on Supervision of Dogs and Cats.
The dog owner is a 55-year-old man.

Another underwater cable outside Sweden has been damaged, Telia states for Lithuanian LRT.
According to the telecom company, it runs between Lithuania and Sweden.
Technical director Andrius Šemeškevičius states that it was cut off at 10 o’clock on Sunday morning.
– The systems immediately reported that we had lost the connection, he tells LRT.
Telia in Sweden confirms the information for Aftonbladet.

A woman was also stabbed and is now being treated in hospital with serious injuries. The situation is described as critical.
