A person has been arrested on suspicion of having tried to run over several police officers after an incident in the Marieholm Tunnel in Gothenburg on Tuesday afternoon.

The officers were in the tunnel to check a stationary car when the driver suddenly broke away and jumped into a second car that had arrived at the scene. The car then drove off, whereupon two police officers were forced to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. A third police officer was slightly injured in connection with the first driver jumping into the getaway car.

A search effort was underway on Tuesday with, among other things, a helicopter. At 10 p.m., the man suspected of driving the car in central Gothenburg could be arrested, the police said on Wednesday morning.

The incident is being investigated as attempted murder, aggravated assault and promoting escape.
