It was this summer that the woman in Mörbylånga municipality informed her husband that she wanted a divorce because of his extensive alcohol abuse. For a couple of nights last summer, the man had temporarily stayed with the woman and the three children, who are all minors.
According to the district court, both the man and the woman told that one morning the man attacked his wife with a knife in connection with her going to the toilet. Several of the blows were also handed out in front of the couple’s eldest daughter, who also confirmed the course of events. Therefore, the man is sentenced not only for attempted murder, but also for child welfare crimes.
Life-threatening injuries
According to the court certificate, several of the injuries the woman received were life-threatening. However, the man’s version is that he only wanted to hurt the woman and that his intention was not to kill her. But the district court makes the assessment that the punishment should correspond to the penalty value for murder because there was a high risk that his actions led to the woman actually losing her life.
In addition to the prison sentence of 16 years, the man must pay damages to the woman and daughter totaling almost SEK 600,000. He is also sentenced to deportation after serving his sentence.
