Ten years to the day after the attacks against the newspaper Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Cacher, several tributes were paid to the victims of the terrorist attacks this Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Ten years later, the emotion is still as strong. Ten years later, several tributes are paid to the 17 victims of the Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Cacher attacks perpetrated on January 7, 2015. Three commemorations are planned for this Tuesday, January 7 in Paris near the places targeted by the terrorist attacks as well as rallies in front of the commemorative plaques installed in 2016.

The official ceremony must begin at 11:30 a.m. in front of the former premises of Charlie Hebdo, at 10 rue Nicolas-Appert, in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, to pay tribute to the twelve people killed by the Kouachi brothers, eight of whom were members of the editorial staff of the satirical newspaper. Later at the end of the morning, another moment of contemplation is organized at 62 boulevard Richard Lenoir, in the same district, to honor the memory of police lieutenant Ahmed Merabet, killed just after the attack on the newspaper. And a final commemoration must be held at the beginning of the afternoon, around 1 p.m., in front of the Hyper Cacher de la Porte de Vincennes in the 20th arrondissement, where four people were killed.

150 people invited

These tributes are organized by the city of Paris and the Elysée and several political figures are invited. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macronwill naturally be present, as will the mayor of Paris who was already councilor of the capital at the time of the attacks, Anne Hidalgo. The Paris town hall also wanted to “mark” the commemorations with the seal of sobriety in accordance with the wishes of the victims’ families.

François Hollande and Bernard Cazeneuve, respectively head of state and minister of the Interior at the time of the attacks, were invited. Other personalities such as Prime Minister François Bayrou and certain members of his government will be present, like Bruno Retailleau, Rachida Dati and Gérald Darmanin. Manuel Valls, the Overseas Minister, who was Prime Minister at the time of the attacks is also expected to be present. The President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet will attend the commemoration, as will perhaps her counterpart in the Senate Gérard Larcher. The former Paris public prosecutor who served in 2015, François Molins, will be present as every year at the tributes. “It allows us to see victims and families of victims again, with whom links are forged,” he indicated on Franceinfo. In total, 150 personalities were invited according to BFMTVincluding victims and victims’ families.

Another commemoration will also be organized on Wednesday January 8 by the city of Montrouge to pay tribute to municipal police officer Clarissa Jean-Philippe, killed by Amedy Coulibali.
