Trial between Gunilla Persson and Stoppa Pressarna begins

It was at the beginning of 2022 that Gunilla Persson submitted a lawsuit against Stoppa Pressarna. It concerns three articles published in 2020 and 2021 that Persson and her lawyer Mark Safaryan believe constitute gross defamation.

The articles state that she was accused of animal cruelty, that she was stopped at the Swedish border and that she was a bad parent.

Can be settled on the same day

Since this is a freedom of the press case, a jury must now decide whether the articles constituted defamation. If Stoppa Pressarna acquits the case, the case is over, if jurors believe that a crime has been committed, the case goes on to a legal judge who gets to make a decision.

Several cases in a short time

Earlier this year, Samnytt’s responsible publisher Mats Dagerlind was sentenced to one month in prison for gross slander, and at the end of March, Expressen’s editor-in-chief Klas Granström was sentenced for slander by a climate activist. Both parties have appealed the verdict.
