(Finance) – “We signed the new agreement which plans to expand the cooperation between Italy and Switzerland with these trains. What I have behind me, but not only that, but also the SBB trains. Goes through what? First expand the service, then we have extended some trains who from Milan, for example, will go to Venice or from Milan will go to Florence, the one who goes from Milan to Genoa will arrive as far as Livorno and we have also added two pairs that connect Milan and Zurich. So, more trains and more services.” He declared it Luigi Corradi, CEO of Trenitaliaon the occasion of the signing of the renewal of the cooperation agreement between Trenitalia and the Swiss Federal Railways (FFS).
“Then there will be four new trains that allow this expansion. We we completely redid the train that I have behind me, ours ETR 610which we have painted here in a similar way to the Swiss one, with the green, symbol of the Italian flagand then we redid the interior. They were redone following the true sustainabilityin the sense that all the fabrics of our seats are made with recycled plastic which is recovered from the sea. A very strong message therefore regarding the fact that we say the trains will be 97% recyclable in the future, in this specific case we did it with recycled materials. This is a message that I want to send more and more. Trenitalia will push rolling stock suppliers to build trains with recyclable materials. There are so many passengers, we had them in 2023 more than 3 million passengers between Switzerland and Italy have chosen this collaborative service, between Trenitalia and SBB”, continues Corradi.
We expect the numbers to increase because the interest in traveling cross-border by train is growing a lot. Consider that from Milan you can reach Zurich in three hours and 17 minutes, so it’s truly an exceptional service. We are very happy because we have good filling levels of the trains without having overcrowded trains and we are talking about peak trains of 80-83% fullness of the train, therefore an interesting average value which allows the service to be sustainable but which does not lead to overcrowding”, concludes Corradi.
