Residents of Brantford and the surrounding area are invited to help plant trees in the city’s northwest industrial park on April 24.
The event, organized by the Brant Tree Coalition, is being held at the Savannah Oaks Pond on Savannah Drive from 10 am to 2 pm The site is on a natural area between the Brantford Power headquarters and Ferrero Canada’s plant.
Participants are encouraged to wear long pants and boots and they are asked to bring gloves and a refillable water bottle.
This is the ninth annual community tree planting event organized by the coalition. Organizers are hoping to plant 7,000 trees.
Plans call for local students to be at the site to plant trees on April 21.
The coalition is a collection of community groups and organizations dedicated to improving the environment through tree-planting efforts. Members of the coalition led the effort to plant more than 64,000 trees on a 26.7-hectare property off Abbott Court, near the Garden Avenue exit to Highway 403, in a Brantford industrial park.
Meanwhile, the seventh annual Brant County community tree planting takes place in Paris on April 23 from 10 am to 1 pm at 319 Grand River St. N. at Scott Avenue (behind Sobeys).
Organizers hope to plan 600 trees.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own shovels and gloves.
The events are being held in conjunction with Earth Week 2022.
