At the same time that Sweden’s European Championship qualifier against Belgium in Brussels began on Monday evening, fear spread outside the arena. There were early reports, which were later confirmed by Belgian police, that two Swedish football fans had been shot dead in a terrorist attack.
The match was suspended
The match was played until half-time before the Swedish and Belgian players and managers were informed of what had happened and then they acted immediately. At the players’ initiative, the match was suspended and the second half was never finished.

The Swedish supporters in place were kept in the stands inside the arena to give them the best possible protection. Due to the fact that there was a threat image against Swedes in particular this evening.
Tre Kronor’s support
The Swedish men’s national team was evacuated and flown home in the middle of the night. Since last night, there has been great sadness in Sweden and both the sports family and the entire country have been united in the terrible.
