When Travis Fimmel promoted his Vikings sequel Raised by Wolves, he also talked a lot about his iconic role Ragnar Lodbrok. In an interview with Backstage, he revealed that what he liked most about Vikings was the Cooperation with showrunner Michael Hirst missing.
Travis Fimmel misses the unique connection to the Vikings showrunner
While Travis Fimmel’s character in the sci-fi series Raised by Wolves covered similar themes to Ragnar in Vikings, he missed working on his former series:
I miss the scripts. I had a really great relationship with Michael Hirst and he’s such a great writer. We simply had a unique relationship.
Of course, Travis Fimmel has not only grown fond of Michael Hirst and his writing style in his 4 seasons as Ragnar Lodbrok:
I miss all the people on set. I miss all the Irish guys I worked with. They were really talented, great people and so funny.
The Australian is grateful for the experience of being part of Vikings. In fact, the series would not be the same without his portrayal of Ragnar, who was between delirium and euphoria. Even in the finale, he dominated Vikings from the grave.
Reminisce about Ragnar with us in the trailer for season 1:

Showrunner Michael Hirst quickly got over Ragnar’s death in Vikings
However, anyone who asked Michael Hirst about working with Travis Fimmel at the time received a slightly different answer. Of course he appreciated his colleague, but he had to leave the series:
I loved it for Travis [Fimmel] together we created a unique hero and a complex, charismatic character. But my Saga should always be about Ragnar and his sonsHistorically, some of his sons were as famous or more famous than Ragnar himself.
When it comes to the best characters in Vikings, Hirst highlights the legendary Shieldmaiden Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) especially hShe is “one of the greatest female role models in TV history”.
With Ragnar, Travis Fimmel and Michael Hirst have created a fantastic character that will stay in our memories for a long time. Travis Fimmel in particular will not soon forget his work on it.
