The truck was headed west on Perth Road 130, approaching Line 26 in Avonton, just before 7 am when it crashed. Police and other emergency service vehicles responded, and the driver was stuck on top of the cab that came to rest on its side in the ditch. Due to concerns with live hydro lines, the roadway was closed to traffic and Hydro One was contacted.

Police said the road was expected to remain closed until early Friday afternoon. With more snow and wind expected in the coming days, drivers are being asked to slow down and create extra space.

Stratford police were called Thursday around 6:30 pm after the collision at the intersection of Downie Street and West/East Gore streets.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was headed north on Downie Street, at the intersection of West Gore, when the e-bike driver drove east across Downie Street into the path of the pickup truck, police said. The driver of the pickup truck, a 39-year-old Stratford woman, had the right of way, police added. The driver of the e-bike was initially taken to Stratford General Hospital. He was later transported to London Health Sciences Center by air ambulance with serious non-life-threatening injuries.

Interactions with the driver of the pickup truck indicated she was impaired by cannabis, police alleged. She was arrested and evaluated by a drug recognition expert at Stratford Police Service headquarters. Police allege the driver failed the examination and was subsequently charged with impaired operation-drug. Police also seized approximately 14 grams of cannabis from the driver, who was later released on an undertaking.

She was provided with a Part 3 summons for having care and control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

Police are continuing to investigate and said more charges are pending.
