“This is an important agreement that will make it possible to strengthen economic and commercial relations and trade between Italy and Lithuania, while at the same time addressing the challenges of climate change thanks to the strengthening of rail transport, which is less polluting and more sustainable than road transport. . The Memorandum – explained the Minister Giovannini – is also consistent with the objectives that Italy is pursuing for the development of Ten-T corridor between the Adriatic and the Baltic. Our country is also investing heavily in strengthening the network railway Adriatic which will make it possible to better connect the ports of Northern Europe with the South. The development and enhancement of the intermodality envisaged in the agreement, with the shift of freight traffic from road to rail, will have a beneficial effect in terms of reducing polluting vehicles in circulation and of fluidification of traffic on the roads, and therefore of road safety. The agreement will also favor the introduction of advanced management technologies and the digitization of logistics processes “.
