Transport driver charged after trailer loses wheels

A 45-year-old transport truck driver from Woodstock faces multiple charges after losing two trailer wheels while driving on the highway.

Brant OPP received several calls at about 9:28 am Friday, March 24 regarding a traffic hazard on Highway 403 near Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

A set of dual wheels detached from a transport truck’s trailer but did not strike any other vehicles or cause injuries.

The driver is also accused of registering an alert on the roadside alcohol screening device. He was issued a three-day suspension of his driver’s licence.

The commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver is charged with drive commercial vehicle in contravention of conditions; fail to enter defect in daily report; drive CMV with a major defect in it or in drawn vehicle; permit operation of CMV with load not secured as prescribed; driver fails to ensure tiedowns taut – required by National Standard, Part 1 – CMV over 4,500 kg; fail to secure “over the centre” tiedown tensioner by adequate secondary means; fail to have required number of tiedowns; and wheel separation – CMV.
