An express train between Malmö and Stockholm has been evacuated after an alarm about a suspected fire.

– It is a sensor that has indicated a fire in the engine. We ourselves have not noticed anything and there is no fire going on, says SJ’s acting press manager Peter Kraméus.

As a safety measure, all passengers are now being evacuated from the train.

– We stopped the locomotive and take the safe before the unsafe. We are evacuating the 246 passengers from the train, says Peter Kraméus.

Waiting for train

The train has stopped a few kilometers south of Linköping. There, the passengers have to wait for another train to pick them up.

– We have a train driver who drives the passengers to Stockholm, says Peter Kraméus.

During the time the evacuation takes place, traffic will stand still for nearly twenty minutes while the evacuation takes place. Shortly before 12:30 on Saturday, the replacement train had started rolling towards the passengers.

– I spoke to them 10 minutes ago. They are on their way now, says Peter Kraméus.
