Trainer loses 30 pounds with Pokémon GO and tells us how

Pokémon GO content is designed to motivate Trainers to move. Now a Reddit user reports on the weight loss he achieved with the help of the game. We at MeinMMO interviewed him in writing and he told us how he did it.

Who is the person you are talking about? Unlike most other games, Pokémon GO is designed around getting outside, moving around, and exploring. Reddit user FarTransportation376 took advantage of this and proudly reported on his weight loss on the Pokémon subreddit on March 22nd.

In an interview, he told us how he did it and what further goals he is now pursuing.

This is how a trainer could lose 15 kilos with Pokémon GO

Why did FarTransportation376 want to lose weight with Pokémon GO? As he explains in his Reddit post, he’s gained 60 pounds since graduating, which made him uncomfortable. However, his training in the gym did not bring any improvement and he hated stupid running. However, thanks to Pokémon GO, he found a special incentive to move.

“Pokémon GO helped me lose weight and I’m forever grateful”

How much has FarTransportation376 lost? In our interview, the trainer proudly revealed that he lost almost 15 kilos within 2 months. Here’s what he explained to us:

It has taken me 2 months and so far I am down from 225 pounds [112,5 Kilogramm] to 195 pounds [97,5 Kilogramm] dropped (still not my goal, but very impressive for such a short period of time).

How long has he been playing Pokemon GO? He originally started playing Pokémon GO back in 2016, but paused to attend college. Through a friend, however, he finally started playing again in February 2023 in order to play with him and go for regular walks.

I started playing in 2016 but stopped in 2017/2018 when I went to university. I picked it up again in February 2023 after a friend suggested that since we live in the city we all play and go for a walk.

What motivated him to move? As FarTransportation376 told us, he lives in a city where he can reach 6 PokéStops and 2 Gyms just from his apartment. For many, convenience would already win here, but the Reddit user saw it differently.

He found that the Lure Modules weren’t spawning the best monsters, so he was motivated to explore his area to move the blocks and find lots of interesting and new Pokémon.

I was motivated to get out and walk, because even though there are 2 Gyms and 6 PokéStops in my apartment that I can rotate without moving, the spawn rate of new Pokémon isn’t that great, even with Lure Modules. If I walk a few blocks around, some new and really interesting Pokemon will spawn

I don’t always walk a fixed route as I always want to visit new PokéStops and Gyms, so my route takes a different path every day.

In his Reddit post, he also explains that he enjoys hatching the eggs and collecting candies by running with his buddy Pokémon (via reddit.com). In the following article we will show you which Pokémon are best suited as buddy:

Trainer reached special milestone: But the acceptance itself wasn’t the only milestone FarTransportation376 achieved. He tried to steadily increase the distance covered. In the beginning he ran 25 km, in the last few weeks he managed to cover more than 50 km every week with the help of the GO Plus, a corresponding catch gadget (via reddit.com).

My stats aren’t great considering my break. Since starting again in February, I’ve walked 135.8 miles, caught 4,211 Pokemon, and rotated 4,580 stops. For the past three weeks I’ve completed the weekly walking challenge (50km) with a GO Plus and I’m well on my way to doing it again this week.

A new catch gadget is coming soon. Here we show you why the Pokémon GO Plus + is so popular with trainers.

What else helped him with the acceptance? In addition to playing Pokémon GO, FarTransportation376 also changed his diet and redesigned his visits to the gym. This is how he explained to us:

Coupled with these walks, I’ve made my visits to the gym more meaningful and focused. I have always avoided alcohol and processed foods and cook a lot more vegan.

What’s his next goal? The previous loss of 15 kilos is said to have been just a milestone, because he has set himself the goal of continuing to lose weight by the summer. His target weight is currently 185 pounds, i.e. 92.5 kilos. He still needs about 5 kilos to reach it.

I hope to lose the rest of the weight and be 185 by summer [Pfund] come

FarTransportation376 has this advice for like-minded people

Finally, we wanted to know from FarTransportation376 what he advises other players who also want to lose weight with the help of Pokémon GO. The answer was very clear to him – just play, because it can be really rewarding not only in the game, but also outside of it. This is how he wrote to us:

My advice to others: Play! It’s a fun game that doesn’t take up a lot of your time if you don’t want to, but it can be rewarding, both in-game and out-of-game for practice! The community is positive and every day there are new Pokemon in the game and new experiences on my walks.
