Train has derailed in Herrljunga after collision with cows

A passenger train has derailed after colliding with cows in Herrljunga.
The people who traveled with the train are being evacuated, according to the Swedish Transport Administration.
It is unclear if anyone was injured in connection with the accident.

During the morning, a passenger train on its way to Varberg collided with cows in Herrljunga. The train has derailed as a result of the accident, something like Gothenburg Post was the first to report.

The police are on their way to the scene, confirms police spokesperson Jens Andersson for TV4 Nyheterna.

– We don’t know much about it. We received information from SOS that a train must have derailed after colliding with cows, he says.

The Swedish Transport Administration states that the train is being evacuated. The train tilts as a result of the derailment.

19 people on board

It is unclear how many people were on the train and whether anyone was injured in connection with the accident.

The emergency services are also on site at the accident.

– It is a passenger train with two locomotives and a carriage that stands on the side of the track. In time, the passengers can be transported on. They are trying to get a bus out now, says Johan Eklund, alarm and line operator at the rescue service.

– The people must not be out of the train.

SVT West writes that 19 people must have been on the train when the accident occurred.

A veterinarian has been called to the scene to check the cows that were hit.
