(Finance) – The Center for Studies and Statistics ofUNRAE – on the basis of the registration data provided by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) – carried out an estimate of the towed vehicles for the month of April 2024 towards the same month of 2023. The contraction of the continues towed vehicle market in Italywith 1,122 units registered in April 2024 compared to 1,136 in the same month of the previous year (-1.3%). Since last January, registrations of new towed vehicles amounted to 4,417, with a decrease of 1,083 units compared to 2023 (-19.7%), when 5,500 vehicles were registered.
“The first four months of the year unfortunately highlight a very negative trend for our sector and we expect that the situation will not improve quickly. After 2023 already down by 7.4%, it is now easy to expect a decrease in registration volumes in 2024″, he explains Michele MastagniCoordinator of the Trailers, Semitrailers and Equipment Group of UNRAE.
“We strongly reiterate the urgent need for the Government to adopt a floor extraordinary Of renewal of the vehicle fleet Italian, now obsolete, also through disincentive measures, so that the most obsolete vehicles can be replaced with latest generation trailers and semi-trailers”, adds Mastagni.
“Manufacturers of towed vehicles have been investing significantly for years to improve the safety of new ones productsoften reaching safety standards higher than those required by the regulations Europeans. However, if the trailers in circulation continue to have an average age of 17 years, the dangers on Italian roads will increase significantly”, continues the Coordinator of the Association Group.
“We believe that a boost to the recovery of market can also come from the adoption of innovative technologies that allow more efficient transport solutions, such as elongated vehicles Eurotrailer, which allow hauliers to make fewer trips for the same amount of goods transported. This type of vehicle does not present problems for the road network, does not require any infrastructural adaptation and can be loaded onto railway wagons, making it compatible with intermodal transport”, concludes Mastagni.
