Avatar, the world’s highest-grossing movie, returns to the big screen with a sequel 13 years later.

In the time since the record-breaking first movie, news about the second movie has appeared many times.

The new movie became official with the trailer released on Monday.

The second of the series will meet with the audience in December 2022 under the name “Avatar: The Way Of Water”.

The stars of the first movie, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver, are joined by Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel and Edie Falco in the sequel.

The 90-second trailer published on YouTube reached 6 million views in 13 hours.

There’s only one sentence in the trailer, which shows the avatars flying, floating, and rallying against a mysterious foe over the ocean.

“One thing I do know is, wherever we go, family is our stronghold,” says the movie’s main character, Jake Sully.

Disney announced that the James Cameron film will deal with events 10 years after the first episode.

Director Cameron talks about his creation of Avatar

The creator of the series, director James Cameron, explains that the idea for Avatar was first based on a dream he had during his college years:

“I dreamed of a bio-luminescent forest. It was so inspiring that when I woke up I drew what I remembered as a sketch.

“Years later, in 1995, I wanted to tell a story from a different planet. I combined that concept with what I call Avatar.”

Cameron explains that as much as his interest in indigenous peoples, his youth in the Canadian forests and the time he spent underwater as a diver were the factors that inspired the film.

Avatar’s total revenue is estimated to be close to 3 billion dollars.

Before Avatar, the highest-grossing movie was Titanic, and it was directed by James Cameron.

Titanic won 11 Oscars.

“Avatar: The Way Of Water” hits theaters on December 16.
