It usually takes a long time for the films that celebrate their premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the USA at the beginning of the year to come to Germany. Thanks to streaming services like Disney+, we’ve got a few discoveries to look forward to though don’t wait that long. The latest example: Rye Lane.

Rye Lane is filmmaker Raine Allen Miller’s directorial debut, which is a hybrid of drama and comedy and special strong RomCom influences having. The film received positive reviews at Sundance. The Independent writes: “Rye Lane feels like a miracle.”

Beyond that, pure enthusiasm for the indie film can be read from most of the reviews. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists 98 percent positive reviews for Rye Lane. Not every production achieves such records. But what is the film actually about? The new trailer gives us a little taste.

The story of Rye Lane revolves around Dom (David Jonsson) and Yas (Vivian Oparah) who unexpectedly run into each other in south London. Dom is experiencing the worst day of his life: his girlfriend, who he has been with for six years, has him cheated with his best friend. Now he’s devastated.

Yas has also been through a breakup and can tell Dom all about her experiences while wandering around the boroughs of Peckham and Brixton. They find solace in their conversations. Last but not least, Dom and Yas hatch a plan as they would their respective Getting back at ex-partners can.

When does Rye Lane start on Disney+?

We don’t have to wait much longer. Rye Lane starts already on March 31, 2023 at Disney+. The film comes to Germany around two months after its Sundance premiere.
