Thousands of people lost their lives and thousands were seriously injured after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Al-Huz region of Marrakech, Morocco, on September 8. Earthquake victims are struggling hard in the region where search and rescue efforts continue. Those who survived the wreck lost many of their relatives due to the earthquake.

The number of people who lost their lives in the earthquake increased to 2 thousand 497 and the number of injured increased to 2 thousand 476.
THE SITUATION IS VERY BAD IN THE CITY OF AMIMIZ
The earthquake, which caused great destruction in the El-Huz countryside, was felt in the capital Rabat, as well as in the cities of Casablanca, Meknes, Agadir and Fez.
While some historical buildings in metropolitan cities were damaged, there was no destruction in reinforced concrete buildings.
In the city of Amizmiz in Al-Huz, where the old neighborhoods were severely damaged, search and rescue efforts and aid to earthquake victims continue.
The earthquake survivors, who were treated at the military field hospital established in Amizmiz, told the AA correspondent.
“IT TOOK 3 SECONDS FOR EVERYTHING TO COME DOWN”
İbrahim Vaali, who was injured in his head and various parts of his body, said that everything turned upside down in 3 seconds.
The young earthquake survivor described that night as follows:
“We experienced great fear when the earthquake started around 11:30 on Friday night. It took 3 seconds for everything to turn upside down. I survived because the place I was on was on the roof made of reeds. Everything around me was covered in soil. The soil covered us all. When I stood up, I saw my wife and my 4-month-old daughter. “I heard crying. My wife and daughter and I got out of the rubble with our own efforts. My grandmother was also with us. We pulled her out, too, but they took her into surgery because she had a fracture in her back.”
“WE DIDN’T GOOD LOOKING OUT”
Stating that the neighborhood he lives in Amizmiz is old and the houses are generally made of clay, Vaali said:
“My mother and father live with my siblings in the house next to us. They were also trapped under their earthen house. We tried to get them out about an hour after the earthquake, but we were too late. They lost their lives under the earth. I also have two siblings younger than me, they died under the rubble. I, “My wife and daughter were saved, but we were not happy to be saved. We lost our loved ones and elders in the earthquake.”
“THE MINOR EARTHQUAKE HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WHILE WORKING IN THE WRECK”
Many volunteers came to Amizmiz from neighboring cities to support search and rescue efforts and help earthquake victims.
Abdurrahim Bezag, one of the young volunteers who came to help from Marrakech, said that search and rescue efforts were carried out under very difficult conditions.
Stating that many people lost their lives in the collapsed houses, Bezag said, “We heard that there were many people trapped under the rubble, so we came here. We were able to get some of them out of the rubble, but most of the survivors lost their family members. While working in the rubble, there were 3 small earthquakes. These earthquakes made our work even more difficult. “We brought the injured people we were able to rescue from the rubble to the hospital, but a lot of things are missing in the hospital.” he said.
“A GREAT TRAGEDY HAPPENED HERE”
Bezag continued his words as follows:
“We saved many people in Sidi Hussein District. Ambulances could not pass because the streets were narrow, so we had to carry the injured by hand. There are many people who were victims, and the survivors are trying to survive in difficult conditions. A great tragedy took place here, some of them their children, some their entire families.” He lost his members.” (AA)
