After last week’s chaos on the E22, Trafikverket’s director general Roberto Maiorana is now breaking the silence – and responding to the holiday accusations.
– We are not satisfied with the incident that occurred in connection with the traffic on the E22, says Roberto Maiorana.
For over a day, around 1,000 trucks and cars were stuck in the snowdrifts on the E22 between Hörby in Scania and Kristianstad.
Now, over a week later, the Swedish Transport Administration’s director general Roberto Maiorana gives his view on the chaos.
– We are not satisfied with the incident that occurred in connection with the traffic on the E22, says Roberto Maiorana.
A comprehensive evaluation has been launched together with a number of other bodies and authorities to get to the bottom of how this could happen.
– We need to look at how well the cooperation has worked and if we could do things differently, and of course we must learn from those experiences, says the director general.
The VMAs never aired
Among other things, it must be mapped how much faster the authorities involved could have acted and what a well-functioning collaboration should look like to avoid similar events.
But Roberto Maiorana can already say that the road should have been closed earlier.
– Yes, with hindsight the road should have been closed sooner.
In addition, the lack of a VMA (Important Notice to the Public) must be investigated.
– The VMA will take place, among other things, in collaboration with Sveriges Radio and we need to see in our evaluation when that discussion was brought up and what decisions were made in that work
Denies holiday allegations
TV4 Nyheterna has previously reported that Roberto Maiorana was on holiday when the chaos broke out – and that he refused to interrupt it.
The general manager admits that he was at his country house, but claims that he was working and available throughout the course of events at E22.
– I received the information on the 3rd when the incident began and I worked on the days that the incident took place, he says.
