Speed cameras have been stolen along Sweden’s roads for some time. This is a total of over 140 cameras, and this means large costs for the Swedish Transport Administration. Each camera costs approximately SEK 250,000 to get in place.
– It is a completely new phenomenon, says Bengt Olsson who is press manager at the Swedish Transport Agency.
Rumors of Russian interests
In an article from Aftonbladet, there was information that Russian interests could be behind the thefts. The cameras would be used for Russian drones, according to the newspaper. But Bengt Olsson doubts that information.
– We have been a little surprised by it. But we have discussions with the police and Säpo to see if we can get more information and then we work to prevent them from disappearing.
