– Driver training is not enough for young people to be safely traveling in traffic. Therefore, parents must take a more active role in their education, says Heléne LiljaNational Association M Sweden.

Eligibility from early age
From the age of 15 it is possible to take an AM driver’s license in Sweden. This means that you can drive a moped and moped car with the maximum permissible speed of 45 km/h.
For A-tractor, a rebuilt vehicle-usually a passenger car, the speed limit is 30 km/h.
– For many, especially outside the major city regions’ expanded public transport, these vehicles mean increased opportunities for studies and leisure interests as the young people themselves can move longer distances. That freedom and opportunities are important and worthy to defend, but they will not come without risks, says Heléne Lilja, Head of Communication and Society, the National Association M Sweden.
Many accidents
Already during the first year behind with AM eligibility, 20 percent of 15-year-olds are involved in traffic accidents.
It appears in a recently presented report: 15-year-olds’ experience in driving A-tractor, moped car or moped: a surveyby Helena Selander and Susanne Wallhagen for the State Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI).
However, most accidents only lead to vehicle damage, but the risk of serious personal injury is high in the event of a lack of traffic knowledge.

For short education
What is required for AM authorization is a twelve-hour education.
– Twelve hours of training, with only four hours of internship on two -wheel moped, is not enough for young people to travel safely in traffic. Even with the new rules for A-tractor, 15-year-olds will be allowed to drive a moped and moped car at “mop cards”, says Heléne Lilja.
The Swedish National Association M Sweden urges parents to young people who will start going out in traffic on their own to follow up the driving education at home: – Go with your young people, see how they behave in traffic and observe how they pay attention to other road users, says Heléne Lilja.
-So jump into the moped car or the A-tractor-or on the moped if you dare-and ask for a push to the store. Along the way you have the opportunity to pay attention to your child on risks and how to behave in traffic. A road -safe behavior is crucial for your child to safely come home, Heléne Lilja concludes.
