The snowy weather that has moved in over south-west Sweden has caused a lot of traffic. The E22 is completely closed between Lund and Gårdstånga after several traffic accidents.

– We want you to avoid going out into traffic unless you absolutely have to, says Katarina Rusin at the police.

Several traffic accidents have occurred in Skåne during the Wednesday morning. The E22 is completely closed between Lund and Gårdstånga after at least four traffic accidents occurred.

– We have closed the road in both directions in order to be able to carry out the recovery work as quickly as possible so that motorists are not left standing for long, says Katarina Rusin, press spokesperson at the police in the region of Skåne.

On the E6, there is a complete standstill in the northbound direction between Lomma and Bjäred after four traffic accidents.

– There are at least four accidents between, among other things, cars or trucks that have either overturned or driven into the ditch.

Police: Stay home

There is no information that anyone has been injured in connection with any of the accidents – but it may take time before the roads open again.

– Especially when it comes to trucks, it can take time to salvage. A special tongue salvage is required, which simply requires more time.

The police urge all road users to think before heading out into the storm.

– We want you to avoid going out into traffic unless you absolutely have to. It is very difficult road conditions and not only on these roads, but generally on the western side of the county, says Katarina Rusin.

Trucks in serial collision

There have also been traffic accidents in western Sweden in connection with the storm. On the E20 outside Vara, there was a complete standstill after several trucks collided in a series collision at nine o’clock in the morning. Two hours later, the police announced that shortly afterwards the road was expected to be fully reopened.

Around Gothenburg, according to Hans-Jörgen Ostler, press spokesperson for the police in the West region, however, it has been relatively calm on the roads so far.

– I have a feeling that we have a fairly vigilant population, who have seen the warnings and drive carefully or work from home, he says.

– But if you go out there is still a risk of getting stuck in queues and being seated. Because it’s quite windy, drifts of snow can quickly form which can be dangerous, so you don’t have to drive a car, I would advise against it.
